What is Mogulus? - 4 Step Mogulus Review

Here is an interesting new online video tool that is sure to create some buzz. Mogulus is a tool that promotes live broadcasting. You can set up your own TV channel, import your own clips or those you find through their search tool, set up your camcorder, record live and viola you have your own TV station. I was approved for a beta account and found the first steps to be very intuitive and the interface is very easy on the eyes. They are smart enough not to complicate the screen with to much to look at, just the facts.

Step 1 – Set up a channel, give it a name and add some styling. They fall a little short here with the styling of the channel assuming that most users know what “strap” “ticker speed” and other such video techie terminology means. Help links are needed here to make the customization process easier.

Step2 – Grab your content. This is where the fun begins; you can search within the interface for videos relating to your keywords or upload your own video files. One point of frustration was that when I tried to enter in a specific Youtube link to my video address it would not find it, it seems the only option is to search through keywords and hope it shows up. I believe the search tool needs some improvement on this. Please add your comments if you have found another way.

Step3 – Now you can go into the live mixing room and make changes on the fly as the video is playing such as pop up text and cueing different clips. I found this to be quite fun although I don’t think anyone was really watching it was interesting to see what I could do with my live channel.

Step 4 – The last step is to control your auto pilot and place different story boards into this area so there an adequate flow of broadcasts for when you are not live. This is a useful tool to control your show because for most we will not be live 24/7.

There is also an option to find other mogulus users and share channel privileges so that they can contribute files, add their own storyboards or live broadcasts of their own, an intelligent way to keep the channel interesting. One thing to keep in mind is to open the Mogulus wikipedia manual and read through the instructions as you go along. I referred back to it a few times, especially on the definitions of many of the features that are available.

Overall this tool is pretty interesting and the layout is straightforward, I do think they need to improve on the help files, descriptions and options but in time this tool should be an excellent addition to your websites, blog or Facebook.

Create some great screen capture videos or blow off the cyber dust of some of those video files and add them to your  channel. Set up the station on your sites and get people talking. Your very own cyberspace TV channel, now that is a cool web thing!

Have you tried it? Let me know what you think…

SteveO @ 9:30 am:

Just found Mogulus yesterday, and your review this morning.

Mogulus looks like it will definitely rock! We're planning to use it for our church, both for live video and archives, and I'm actually considering setting up my own channel (even though I have a face for radio ).

My only concern at this point is getting hooked and then not being able to afford it once the beta is over!
